Agbogbloshie Makerspace Platform — Spacecraft

The Agbogbloshie Makerspace Platform, initiated by DK Osseo-Asare and Yasmine Abbas, rethinks one of Accra’s most complex urban landscapes as a place of knowledge, repair, and invention. In Agbogbloshie, an informal recycling and scrap-working district often associated with electronic waste and difficult environmental conditions, the project looks beyond the image of waste to the skills, networks, and resourcefulness already present in the community.

At its center is the “Spacecraft”: a low-cost, open-source, mobile makerspace conceived as an open workshop for local makers, scrap dealers, students, and young professionals. Rather than imposing a fixed solution, it sets up a platform for exchange, linking informal repair practices with tools, training, digital knowledge, and safer methods of material reuse.

The project turns architecture into social and technical infrastructure. More than a building, it acts as a catalyst for circular production, collaboration, and urban resilience, opening new possibilities for work, learning, and community life.
